MSU's Tate Added To The Bowerman Award Watch List

STARKVILLE, Miss. - Speedy Mississippi State freshman Tavaris Tate has been named to the official watch list for the 2010 Bowerman Award the USTFCCCA announced Wednesday. The Starkville, Miss., native is one of twelve names that have been selected by the Bowerman Men's Watch Committee for the 2010 season.
Tate's impressive young collegiate career includes a 44.86 second 400-meter dash time, currently the fastest in the world and MSU freshman record. He also won a world title at the IAAF World Championships as a part of Team USA's 4x400-meter relay team in March.
The Bowerman Award is given to the best male and female NCAA track and field athlete and was first awarded in 2009. It is named after former University of Oregon track and field coach and Nike co-founder, Bill Bowerman.
