Former Bulldog Golfer Fast Qualifies For PGA Event This Weekend

Fast played collegiate golf from 2005-09 at MSU and stands seventh in the Bulldog record book for lowest tournament total with a 206 at the 2006 Callis Communications Intercollegiate. Fast was also a part of head coach Clay Homan's back-to-back NCAA regional showings and the Bulldogs impressive run to the 2008 NCAA Championship.
"I'm extremely happy for Matt," said Homan. "He is playing some of his best golf right now. He has always been a good driver of the ball and if he putts well this week, he'll do just fine."
The Zurich Classic of New Orleans is compiled of a field of 144 players and there will be two rounds played on consecutive days beginning tomorrow before cuts are made for the weekend when the field will be dwindled to 50.
"It is extremely exciting to have the opportunity to play here," said Fast. "Hopefully it will be the first of many future chances to play in PGA tournaments. It's great to play in New Orleans and I need to have a good mindset so I can make the cut and play through the weekend."
Fast is also joined by former Bulldog golfer Michael Connell who is regular on the PGA tour.
Fast will tee off first round action tomorrow at 1:30 CT and second round play will begin at 8:40 CT on Friday, Apr. 23. The first and second rounds will be aired on The Golf Channel and the weekend action will be televised on CBS. Live stats will also be available at www.pgatour.com.
