MSU Men's Track Team Cracks Top 10

STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State will travel to the prestigious Penn Relays this week as one of the premier teams in the country.
On Tuesday, the men's Track & Field squad moved up one spot to No. 10 in the Division USTFCCCA rankings and now stands at No. 4 in the South Region.
"It's special to say you are a Top 10 program," MSU coach Al Schmidt said. "It's an honor, but we still have a lot of work to accomplish."
Individually for the Bulldogs, D'Angelo Cherry is second in the 100-meter dash, while Kendall May is 31st. In the 200-meter Dash, Dwight Mullings is 16th and May 32nd.
In the 400-meter dash, freshman Tavris Tate of Starkville is No. 4, followed by Dwight Mullings at No. 6, while O'Neal Wilder has garnered a No. 41 ranking.
Emanuel Mayers has also made his presence felt in the 400-meter hurdles, where he's No. 4 thanks to his time of 49.65 set two weeks ago at the Ole Miss Invitational.
On the relay side of things, the 4x100 team is fifth, while the 4x400 squad is No. 7.
As for the women, senior Wendy Copeland of Tupelo is 14th in the long jump, while Taneisha Baker is 45th in the 200-meter dash following her time of 23.54 last weekend at the War Eagle Invitational at Auburn.
In the 400-meter dash, Jody-Ann Muir is 32nd, while LaQuinta Aaron is 24th in the 100-meter hurdles and 18th in the heptathlon.
"This is as deep of a team as we've had in a long time, and we'll only get better," Schmidt said.
