Bulldogs Prep For Saturday Scrimmage

STARKVILLE, Miss. - On a perfect sun-splashed Friday afternoon, Mississippi State's football team worked out in shoulder pads and shorts as it looked to polish things up prior to a Saturday morning scrimmage that will close out Week 2 of its spring practice session.
"We worked on cleaning things up today," head coach Dan Mullen said. "We had a physical practice yesterday and we're really going to get after it tomorrow morning. Midway through the spring, it'll be a good gauge for where we are."
While the Bulldogs' Saturday scrimmage will be its first full scrimmage, it hardly marks the first time the team has worked full speed in a variety of situations. But those scripted practice periods are quite a bit different from scrimmage work.
"(In regular practice periods) You can't really tell the impact of a sack. Of an interception. Of a big run or a big pass," Mullen explained. "When it's a scrimmage, and that big play changes field position or a sack makes it 3rd-and-long, you can really teach from those."
State will hit the practice fields around 9 a.m. on Saturday morning, and the scrimmage will be open to the public.
