Maroon Takes 26-13 Victory Over White In Spring Football Finale

STARKVILLE, Miss. - Before a crowd of 34,127, the largest in Mississippi history, the Maroon squad defeated the White squad 26-13 in Mississippi State's spring football game held at Davis Wade Stadium Saturday evening.
The Maroon team began the scrimmage with a 5-3 advantage, earning points in pre-scrimmage drills. After five plays and a stalled drive to begin the game, Damein Anderson of the Maroon team intercepted Tyler Russell's first pass of the game, giving Maroon the ball on its own 45. The Maroon squad would take advantage and a 12-3 lead, driving 55 yards in six plays, scoring on a Bandon Heavens 20-yard reception from Chris Relf.
Both offenses traded possessions through the remainder of the first quarter until the White team capitalized with eight seconds left in the opening quarter on a 40-yard field goal from Sean Brauchle to cut the defecit to 12-6.
The Maroon team would strike once again before the end of the half, driving 80 yards in 11 plays as Montrell Conner scored from 1-yard out to put Maroon up 19-6 with 3:38 left.
The Maroon squad would extend its lead to 26-6 late in the third quarter as Marcus Green hauled in a 15-yard touchdown pass from Relf, scoring with 3:49 left in the period.
The White squad would finally find the endzone late in the final quarter as redshirt freshman LaDarius Perkins scampered eight yards for the TD, cutting the margin to the final score of 26-13.
The Maroon team had a 356-182 advantage in total yards while outgaining the White squad 172-25 on the ground.
Relf ended the game, completing 13-24 passes for 184 yards and two touchdowns without an interception. Russell was 12-27 for 125 yards. Ballard led all rushers with 73 yards on 14 carries. Redshirt freshman Montrell Conner rushed nine times for 60 yards.
Heavens led all receivers with 63 reception yards while Marcus Green had five receptions for 56 yards. Each hauled in a touchdown pass.
Sean Ferguson of the Maroon team had two sacks and five total tackles to lead the way while Jamie Jones had six stops for the White team.
