Fan Voting Closes Friday For College World Series Legends Team

STARKVILLE, Miss. - Time is rapidly running out for online fan voting for the NCAA College World Series Legends Team. Voting closes Friday (Apr. 16) for the project which celebrates the accomplishments of the players and coaches representing 60 years of College World Series competition at Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha, Neb. The College World Series ends its run at venerable Rosenblatt Stadium with the 2010 College World Series.
The 27-player team will feature two athletes at each fielding position, four pitchers, two designated hitters, three head coaches and two "utility players. Nominees for the CWS Legends Team were determined by representatives of the NCAA, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) and the Omaha World-Herald. CWS Legends Team members will be invited to attend the final College World Series at Rosenblatt Stadium as guests of the NCAA and formally honored June 18 during CWS Opening Ceremonies.
Mississippi State All-American Will Clark (1983-85) is one of 11 athletes representing the Southeastern Conference on the ballot. One SEC coach, former LSU coach Skip Bertman, is also on the ballot. Clark starred on the 1985 State club that finished tied for third in the '85 CWS, MSU baseball's highest final national finish. In four games at the '85 CWS at Rosenblatt Stadium, Clark went 7-for-15 (.467) with a double, a triple, two home runs, five RBI, six runs scored and three walks and was named to the 1985 CWS All-Tournament Team.
MSU's baseball teams directed by head coaches Paul Gregory, Ron Polk and Pat McMahon have earned eight berths in the College World Series over the past four decades, with State advancing to the national championship event in 1971, 1979, 1981, 1985, 1990, 1997, 1998 and 2007.
