MSU Soccer Inks Georgia Standout Brianna McLeod
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Mississippi State head soccer coach Neil Macdonald has announced the signing of Georgia standout Brianna McLeod to a national letter of intent beginning with the 2010 season.
McLeod joins a heralded signing class that includes Colleen Diemer (Plainfield, Ind.), Morganne Grimes (Fayetteville, Ga.), Lisa Monteith (Ft. Myers, Fla.), Abby Risner (Bentonville, Ark.), Elisabeth Sullivan (Memphis, Tenn.) and Riley Wood (White Lake, Mich.).
Macdonald on McLeod: “Brianna is a powerful, quick centerback who is very good in the air. As a player, she is still developing the tactical aspects of her game. It will take her some time to adjust to the college level, but she has a very bright future ahead of her.”
High School/Club: Played high school soccer for Lakeside High School in Evans, Ga… Named team captain for Nick Edmond’s squad her senior season… Guided the Panthers to a 13-2 record this season, including an 11-match win streak… Tallied eight goals and 15 assists as a junior in leading Lakeside to a 16-1 record, the Region 3-AAAA championship and the state semifinals… Tabbed the team MVP in 2009… Collected nine goals and seven assists as a sophomore, earning Most Improved honors… Competed on the club level for Ryan McArdle’s Augusta Arsenal… Captained the Arsenal the past five years… Netted 24 goals and assisted on 38 more in leading the Arsenal to a 52-3-1 record the last four seasons… Collected a personal-best 13 goals three years ago.
Personal: Born Brianna Lanee McLeod on Sept. 26, 1992, in Ann Arbor, Mich… The daughter of Kyle and Sonya McLeod.
