Bulldog Lady Netters Entertain No. 13 Georgia Friday
STARKVILLE, Miss. - For the third consecutive match, Mississippi State's women's tennis (9-7, 1-5 SEC) plays a top-20 squad, when the Lady Bulldogs host 13th-ranked Georgia (10-5, 6-0 SEC) Friday afternoon at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre. First serve is slated for Noon CT.
Mississippi State is coming down the stretch of the 2010 Southeastern Conference schedule, and the competition has been tough. Since beating Kentucky in its first SEC affair, MSU has dropped five straight in conference action. Four out of those five losses have come against squads ranked the top-20 of the ITA Rankings.
The State Lady Bulldogs are led at the top two positions by senior Radka Ferancova and sophomore Olesya Tsigvintseva. The two players swapped courts last week, each taking tough losses on Friday and Sunday. Meanwhile, paired with Natalia Mayuk, Tsigvintseva helped pick up a doubles win in Sunday's affair with South Carolina.
Georgia enters Friday's contest with a talented team. UGA is one of two teams (Florida) that has yet to lose an SEC match. The Lady Bulldogs are led by 10th-ranked Chelsey Gullickson and 29th-ranked Nadja Gilchrist at the No. 1 and No. 2 courts. The players also come together to make a tough tandem in doubles with a No. 10 overall ranking, and are currently riding a 16-match win streak.
Following its match with Georgia, Mississippi State plays host to 14th-ranked Tennessee on Sunday. Match time between State and the Lady Vols is slated for 1 p.m. CT, with free admission to the public.
