MSU Men's Tennis Hits The Road For Friday Match At No. 8 Georgia
MSU is 6-46 all-time when facing Georgia and dropped a 5-2 decision at home to the visiting Bulldogs last season. State's last win against UGA came in 2005 when the Bulldogs won 4-3 at Georgia.
State boasts two nationally ranked players, led by No. 67 Louis Cant who is enduring a four-match losing streak. Cant is 9-4 on the year and 1-3 in league play. Sophomore George Coupland ranks 125th in the country and is 5-9 in dual match action, 2-3 in the SEC.
MSU junior Antonio Lastre has a team-best 10 wins in dual match play and has posted two SEC victories thus far. Lastre is currently riding a three-match win streak and recently picked up his 50th-career victory. MState sophomore Artem Ilyushin is 9-5 in dual matches and is. 500 in league play. Ilyushin is currently on a two-match win streak and is a perfect 5-0 when playing at the No. 3 position. Bulldog sophomore Daniel Sanchez is .700 in dual matches as well as a .500 record in league action and is an unblemished 3-0 in road matches.
In doubles, the team of Cant and Chris Doerr lead the Bulldogs in wins with nine, followed by seven victories posted by the State tandem Coupland and Ilyusin.
Georgia is led by 22nd-nationally ranked junior Javier Garrapiz who is 10-7 in dual match play and 4-2 in league action. Bulldog senior Nate Schnugg stands at 86th nationally with nine wins on the year. Senior Jamie Hunt of UGA is tied for the team lead in dual match victories with 12 along with senior Christian Vitulli and junior Drake Bernstein.
Georgia is paced in doubles by the 42nd-ranked duo of Hunt and Schnugg who have tallied eight dual match victories and three SEC wins. UGA tandem of Bo Seal and Vitulli have a team-high 10 wins on the season.
