MSU's Tavaris Tate Earns SEC Freshman Of The Week Honor

STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State standout freshman sprinter Tavaris Tate was named SEC Freshman of the Week after his outstanding 400-meter dash performance this past weekend at the Alabama Relays, the league office announced Tuesday.
A native of Starkville, Miss., Tate ran 44.86 seconds en route to setting an Alabama Relays meet and MSU freshman record. His remarkable time is currently ranked No. 1 in the world, and 2nd on MSU's all-time performance list.
The SEC honor is a first for Tate who has already showed how valuable he is to the MSU track and field program. He won a gold medal at the IAAF World Indoor Championships March 14 as a member of the Team USA 4x400-meter relay.
