MSU Soccer Faces Ole Miss Wednesday in Ridgeland to Open Spring Set
STARKVILLE, Miss. – The Mississippi State soccer team opens the 2010 spring schedule on Wednesday when it travels to Ridgeland, Miss., for a 7 p.m. kick-off against Ole Miss at Freedom Ridge Park.
Wednesday’s match opens a five-game slate that includes contests at Samford (Apr. 9, 7 p.m.), Alabama (Apr. 10, 4 p.m.) and Memphis (Apr. 16, 7 p.m.). The Dawgs close spring action on Apr. 17 when they host the annual alumni match at 10 a.m. as part of Super Bulldog Weekend presented by Regions Bank.
Head coach Neil Macdonald’s squad look to build on a 2009 campaign that saw them claim the program’s first winning season since 2003. During that stretch, the Bulldogs claimed a school-record eight-game win streak and set a new consecutive shutouts standard with four.
The Maroon and White return all but one point-scorer from last year’s squad. Kat Walsh will come back after tallying a team-leading 19 points on nine goals and an assist. Rachel Wannek scored four goals and assisted on two others in her inaugural campaign. Jasmine Simmons also enjoyed a stellar rookie campaign, topping State with four assists while adding a goal.
