MSU Men's Golf Hosts Memphis In Head-To-Head Match

The Bulldogs and Tigers will have six players each in their lineup along with two individuals per school competing against each other. The players will be paired off based on standing in the lineup, with the opening tee time set at 8:00 a.m.
This marks the first head-to-head match for MState since its Magnolia Cup victory in 2007 over Ole Miss. The Bulldogs faced Memphis in 2004 in a similar two-round competition where the Tigers were victorious.
MSU's sophomore Lee Heaton will lead the Bulldogs into the event, playing at the No. 1 position. Heaton has been the leader in State's lineup three times this season, most recently finish tops for MSU at the Seminole Intercollegiate. Heaton also ranks among the top 25 in the Southeastern Conference in terms of stroke average. True freshman Robi Calvesbert will look to rebound tomorrow, after recently having his streak of team-leading performances end at four at the Seminole Intercollegiate. Calvesbert is the leader in terms of stroke average for MState and also stands among the top 25 in the SEC.
Sophomore Brad Thompson is making his fifth-straight appearance for the Maroon and White and has already set six career numbers in the spring season. True freshman Brad Mason will participate at the No. 4 slot for MSU. Mason was tied for the Heaton as the Bulldogs' leader in the Seminole Intercollegiate; it was the first time in his young career that the freshman had led MSU tourney action.
Bulldog sophomore Brooks Bankhead is playing at No. 5. It is Bankhead's first action since Feb. 21, where he played as an individual at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate. Rounding out MSU's lineup is true freshman Mike Genovese who has twice finished as MSU's top finisher this season.
Redshirt freshman John Darden and junior Evan Hugall of State will be competing as individuals in the head-to-head match. Darden has been active in five prior events, while this will be Hugall's second showing for the Maroon and White.
The Tigers will be led by sophomore Jonathan Fly, followed by senior Brand Bunn, junior Stefan Erdedi, freshman Lexus Keoninh, freshman Carlson Cox and sophomore Jack Belote will round out Memphis' lineup. Freshman Kody Alexander and junior Phillip Breeding will play as individuals for the Tigers.
The two-round match will be played at Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, Miss. Admission is free and tournament updates will be available at www.mstateathletics.com.
