MState Tennis Returns Home For SEC Match Against South Carolina
The Bulldogs most recent match came on Mar. 16, when State picked up a victory at No. 66 South Florida, 4-3. In its last conference match, MSU won in 4-1 fashion at home against 42nd-ranked Arkansas, picking up their first conference win of the season.
MSU is led by No. 52 nationally ranked Louis Cant, who boasts a 9-3 dual match record, but has dropped his previous three decisions. State junior Antonio Lastre is riding a current two-match win streak which improved his dual match record to 9-5.
101st-ranked Bulldog George Coupland is tied for the team-lead in conference wins with two, while sophomore Artem Ilyushin enters the match with a perfect 4-0 record when playing at the No. 3 position.
In doubles, the Maroon and White are paced by 55th-ranked Coupland and Ilyushin, who are winners of its previous three and are a perfect 3-0 this season when facing ranked doubles teams. Bulldog tandem Cant and Chris Doerr are an impressive 9-3 in dual match play.
South Carolina is fresh off a 5-2 victory at No. 33 Clemson. USC is led by senior Diego Cubas, who stands at 73rd nationally and brings in a 6-7 dual match ledger. 125th-ranked Pedro Campos is an impressive 12-1 in dual match action and a perfect 4-0 in league play. Gamecock tandem Cubas and Ivan Machado stand at 58th nationally and are 4-2 in dual match play.
