Lady Bulldogs Continue Spring Play

ATHENS, Ga. - Mississippi State's women's golf team will face an expanded 23-team field at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic on Friday. Twelve of the the nation's top 21 teams will be featured, including eight other SEC squads.
Continuing her stellar season, junior Erika Thornton will lead the team as she continues her string of starting every tournament of her collegiate career. Joining Thornton will be seniors Leigh Phillips and Gina Sharp, both of which have started every 2009-10 tournament. Junior Mallory Batson will join the three, and freshman Maria Roos will see her second-consecutive tournament.
"We had a good practice round today and were able to practice a lot of shots around the greens," MSU coach Christi Sanders said. "The course has tricky, fast greens but is in great shape despite the tough weather conditions they have had this spring."
Mississippi State's Lady Golfers will begin Friday's first-round play at 10:50 a.m. CT. Saturday's second round will begin at 9:00 a.m. CT and Sunday play will feature a shotgun start.
