Football Bulldogs Finish Day Two Of Spring, Set For Full Pads On Saturday

STARKVILLE, Miss. - Dan Mullen walked away pleased with his team's effort on a windy second day of spring practice, but the head coach spent more time looking forward to his team's third workout, which will be its first in full pads.
"I'm ready to hear some different sounds out on the fields Saturday morning," Mullen said. "We had two good days of instruction, now we need to see who's going to step up and hit somebody. See who's going to make a play."
The Bulldogs worked mainly on the turf fields Thursday afternoon after heavy rains in the Starkville area earlier in the day. The skies cleared in the afternoon, but gusting winds made parts of practice a little more difficult.
"We threw the ball pretty well in the wind," Mullen said. "The kicking periods were where it really got to us. But we'll have to play in it. We'll have to play in rain or snow or whatever, so we'll practice in it too."
Saturday will be State's first in full pads after finishing the two workouts in NCAA mandated helmets only. The practice, which will include some scrimmage action, will begin at 9:45 a.m. at the Shira Complex fields, and will again be open to the public.
