State Tennis Continues To Climb Up ITA Rankings

STARKVILLE, Miss. - The Mississippi State men's tennis team continued its steady rise up the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Rankings this week as the 6-3 Bulldogs jumped 18 spots from last week's ranking and now stand at 40th in the country. MSU has climbed 27 spots total since Jan. 26. It is State's highest ranking since March 25, 2008, when MSU reached No. 38.
"Being top 40 is a great accomplishment from where we began, but that is not our goal this season," said third-year head coach Per Nilsson. "We want to be in the top 25 and continue to build on that. People know where our program is and we are continuing to improve and get back to where Mississippi State tennis belongs."
Also in the latest rankings, State features two individuals ranked, with sophomore Louis Cant, who is a perfect 8-0 this season, leads the way at 100th nationally and sophomore George Coupland stands at 101st in the country.
The Bulldogs will begin Southeastern Conference play this weekend with a pair of road matches at 8th-ranked Kentucky on Friday followed by a Sunday showdown at No. 30 Vanderbilt.
