MSU Track And Field Teams Head To Memphis For Rhodes Invite

STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State men's and women's track and field teams travel to Memphis Saturday for the Rhodes College Invitational. Running events begin at 8:30 a.m. followed by field events at 9 a.m.
"This is our season opener for our women, and only the second meet for the men," head coach Al Schmidt said. "It's an early season developmental meet for us as we prepare for bigger meets coming up."
State's younger athletes will compete primarily in their respective events, while the more talented and developed athletes are set to compete in different events for training purposes.
"We are trying to get ready for Alabama and Texas Relays, so we'll have a lot of athletes in events they don't normally compete in," Schmidt said.
MSU is used to seeing success at Rhodes, having registered five first-place finishes at this meet last season. In the field events, Wendy Copeland, who was named a 2010 Indoor All-American earlier this week, won the triple jump while Josh Tucker took medalist honors in the high jump.
On the track MSU's 4x100- and 4x400-meter relay teams won top honors, and Matthew Cameron claimed the top spot in the 800-meter run.
