Lady Bulldogs Earn #7 Seed In NCAAs; Face Middle Tennessee Sunday In Pittsburgh

STARKVILLE, Miss. - For the second consecutive season, the Mississippi State women's basketball team has earned an at-large bid into the field of 64 in the NCAA Women's Basketball tournament. The Lady Bulldogs earned a seven seed in the Pittsburgh regional and will play 10th-seeded Middle Tennessee State in the first round on Sunday. Game time is set for 1:30 p.m. CT on ESPN.
The winner of the MSU-MTSU game will play the winner of two-seed Ohio State and 15-seed St. Francis on Tuesday in the second round.
The Lady Bulldogs (19-12, 9-7 SEC) are coming off a semifinals appearance in the Southeastern Conference tournament in Duluth, Ga. During the regular season, State finished in a tie for third in the league standings.
The regular season and tournament champions of the Sun Belt Conference, Middle Tennessee State is 25-5 overall this season and were 17-1 in conference play this season. The Blue Raiders are led by senior forward Alysha Clark who leads the nation in scoring, averaging 28.7 points a game.
The Lady Bulldogs and MTSU have met six previous times dating back to 1976 with MTSU holding a 4-2 advantage. The last meeting between the teams came in 1990.
State claimed its sixth NCAA Tournament appearance and its second in two seasons. Last season as an 11-seed, the Lady Bulldogs reached the second round in Columbus, Ohio after knocking off Texas in the first round.
TICKET INFORMATION
After processing the pre-ordered tickets, the MSU Athletic Ticket Office has a limited number of tickets available for the Lady Bulldogs' competition in Pittsburgh. Bulldog Club members can request NCAA Tournament tickets by calling the ticket office at 888-GO-DAWGS beginning at 8:00 a.m. CST Tuesday, March 16, Members will have until Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. CST to make their request and all tickets will be assigned strictly by Bulldog Club priority rank order. Tickets are $17 for each session.
Tickets will be available at will call at the Petersen Events Center Box Office on game day. All tickets must be picked up by the person who ordered them, or by a member of their immediate family.
Any remaining tickets will go on sale to the general public at 8:30 a.m. CST Wednesday, March 17.
