Tate To Compete At IAAF World Indoors; Copeland Jumps At NCAA Indoors Friday

STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State freshman Tavaris Tate travels to Doha, Qatar, to compete as a member of Team USA's 4x400-meter relay team at the IAAF World Indoor Championships. Tate begins competition on Saturday.
"This is an amazing opportunity for Tavaris to have as a freshman," MSU head coach Al Schmidt said. "He has already shown how great he is for our program, and he can only get better as the year continues."
The speedy freshman from Starkville, Miss., broke a 15-year-old indoor 400-meter dash record February 12 in Fayetteville, Ark., when he ran 45.80 seconds to win the event. He finished fourth at the USA Indoor Track and Field Championships February 28 running 46.24 seconds and securing his spot as a member of Team USA's relay team.
COPELAND TO JUMP AT NCAAS
Lady Bulldog senior Wendy Copeland travels to Fayetteville, Ark., for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships Friday. The Tupelo, Miss., native is the only MSU competitor, and is set to compete in the long jump where she is ranked 15th.
"Wendy's competed well for us all season long and is well deserving of this chance to go to Fayetteville and compete to become an all-American," Schmidt said.
Copeland earned NCAA provisional marks twice this year to earn a spot in the competition. She leaped a lifetime best 20 feet, 09 ¼ inches, Feb. 13 at the Tyson Invitational, and jumped 20-02 ¼ in January at the LSU Purple Tiger Invitational.
