MSU Freshman Tavaris Tate Qualifies For IAAF World Indoor Championships

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Mississippi State standout freshman Tavaris Tate completed his first trip to the USATF Indoor Championships Sunday with a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter dash.
The Starkville, Miss., native ran 46.24 seconds in the event and secured his spot as a member of the Team USA 4x00-meter relay team that will compete for a world championship in Doha, March 12-14.
"I think Tate did a remarkable job this weekend," associate head coach Steve Dudley said. "Being an 18-year-old freshman facing off against the top professional athletes in the US is getting him the experience he needs to become a world class athlete. He is only going to be 18 years old competing on a world stage."
In the Men's 60-meter dash semifinal, D'Angelo Cherry finished 14th at 7.09.
