Lady Bulldogs Begin Spring Play

VALDOSTA, Ga. - Mississippi State's women's golf team begins spring play on Monday at the Kinderlou Forest Challenge on the 6,265 yard Kinderlou Forest Golf Course. Kicking off a spring featuring a very competitive schedule, the tournament will feature seven of the nation's top 25 teams, with only three of the field's 18 squads not in the nation's top 50. Ten of the SEC's 12 teams will compete.
Following a stellar fall season, junior Erika Thornton will lead the team as she continues her string of starting every tournament of her collegiate career. Joining Thornton will be seniors Leigh Phillips and Gina Sharp, both of which started every fall tournament. Junior Suzanne Stanley will see her first action of 2009-10, while freshman Morgan McQuary makes the cut for her fourth-straight tournament.
"Kentucky and Kennesaw State have teamed up to host this spring event in Valdosta and have put together a very impressive field," MSU coach Christi Sanders said. "Despite the weather, the team is playing pretty well for this time of year and we are excited to get the spring season underway."
Mississippi State's Lady Golfers will begin Monday's two-round play at 7:30 a.m. CT. Tuesday will wrap up play with the tournament's third and final round on the par 73 course.
