Mississippi State Announces Contract Extension For Sharon Fanning

STARKVILLE, Miss. -- Mississippi State Director of Athletics Greg Byrne announced Tuesday a new contract for women's head basketball coach Sharon Fanning.
The State College Board, Institutions of Higher Learning approved the four-year contract which pays Fanning $230,000 per year. The new contract keeps Fanning at the head of the Lady Bulldog program through the 2012-2013 season.
"We're excited that Coach Fanning will lead our women's basketball program for the next four years," Byrne said. "This new contract symbolizes our commitment to her and our goal of making our coaches' salaries competitive with their peers in the Southeastern Conference. It also rewards her team's accomplishments over the past few seasons, including their NCAA Tournament berth last year, and the expectation level we have for a strong team returning next year."
In 14 seasons at Mississippi State, Fanning has amassed 233 wins and is the schools all-time winningest coach. She has taken 10 Lady Bulldog teams to postseason play including five teams to the NCAA Tournament. Last season, Fanning led State to a 23-10 overall record, as the Lady Bulldogs reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament in Columbus, Ohio. Entering her 34th season this year, Fanning has won 556 overall games as a head coach.
"It is a tremendous honor to be a member of the Mississippi State family," said Fanning. "I appreciate the administration's confidence and support through this contract extension."
