Grant Hogue Signs With Houston Astros

STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State outfielder Grant Hogue, selected in the 35th-round draft by Houston in last week’s MLB First-Year Player Draft, has signed with the Astros.
The Hattiesburg, Miss., native is scheduled begin his career in the Appalachian League playing for the Greeneville (Tenn.) Astros. Hogue will report to Greeneville Thursday to begin preparations for the Astros’ June 23 season-opener.
A two-year starting center fielder for the Bulldogs, Hogue hit .315 as a senior with 10 extra-base hits and 22 RBI. He led Mississippi State and ranked third in the Southeastern Conference with 29 stolen bases (34 attempts), the second-highest single-season total at MSU. In two seasons Hogue registered 54 stolen bases, tying for fourth among MSU’s all-time career stolen base leaders.
Two other Bulldogs were selected in last week’s draft. Junior first baseman Connor Powers of Naperville, Ill., was an 11th-round pick of the Los Angeles Dodgers while junior pitcher Ricky Bowen of Jasper, Ala., was taken in the 43rd round by the Cincinnati Reds.
