Mississippi State Athletics Announces Spring 2009 GPAs

STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State's male and female student-athletes combined to record a 2.91 grade point average during the 2009 spring semester, State's athletic academic office announced.
The '09 spring term was the fourth-straight semester -- and the eighth in the last 10 -- that MSU student-athletes recorded a GPA of 2.90 or better. Women's sports posted an overall GPA of 3.17, while the men's teams had a 2.75 GPA.
Tennis recorded the top grades in each gender. The men scored a department-high 3.52, that sport's best GPA in four years. The women turned in a 3.48. Football tied for its third-highest GPA (2.62), while women's track, soccer and basketball all improved their grades from last fall.
A total of 57 scholarship men and women student-athletes made either the Dean's Scholar or President's Scholar list. Additionally, 136 of the 277 total scholarship student-athletes (49 percent) earned a spring semester GPA of 3.00 or better.
