ROAD DAWGS TOUR TAKES A TEXAS TURN The Road Dawgs Tour, sponsored by the MSU Alumni Association, the Bulldog Club, and local alumni chapters arrived in the state of Texas yesterday and will spend the next couple of days there. Thus far, the reception has been tremendous and the crowds overflowing. It is great to see so many Bulldogs. We really appreciate the support. * * * SUPER BULLDOG WEEKEND FEEDBACK We have begun to receive some email communication from folks who visited the campus during Super Bulldog Weekend 2009. Here is one in particular: “I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the effort you and your staff put into Super Bulldog Weekend. My wife and I had an awesome time with our friends there and took in all of the festivities. Watching the end of the Saturday baseball game on the Dawgzillatron was incredible, especially Connor’s dramatic homerun. Everyone in the football stadium stood and cheered as we watched him round the bases. The productions on the big screen were first class, totally professional and just made me proud to be a Bulldawg fan. Getting to watch the Spring Game was just icing on the cake. Man, that was exciting. Lastly, I can’t tell you how many grown people I saw with tears in their eyes as our players jogged down to the end of the stadium and stood in front of the band and sang the fight song and our Alma Mater. It made me feel like the guys were not simply football players being here for a short time to play football and move on, but guys who were out there loving their university as much as all of us do. I truly believe that will do more to pull us all together than anything I’ve ever seen in my 50 years following MSU football. We don’t have a lot of traditions but the ones we do have, need to be kept. New ones need to be started. That is a great one. In fact, I hope you and your department will begin a campaign to get all MSU fans to learn the fight song and especially the Alma Mater and will strongly encourage everyone to sing out heartily when the band plays those songs. This is something I believe will come to mean the world to prospective students and student athletes. I buy season tickets every year with a good friend of mine, using his priority. I used to be a member of the Bulldog Club but dropped out last year out of frustration. I am now so convinced we are going in the right direction that I will be re-joining once I get my income tax refund. I was going to use that on something else but I just can’t do that in good conscience. I want to do my part.” Charles Brantley * * * MSU ATHLETIC TRIO EARN SPIRIT OF STATE AWARDS Congratulations go out to Ryan Farlow, Anna Goblirsch, and Haley Haynes, who were recently notified they were among the 22 Spirit of State Award recipients for 2009. Farlow is a member of our men’s tennis team, playing most of the season at the No. 1 singles position in the lineup. He is a senior accounting major from Madison, Miss. Goblirsch is a soccer player who has also served the past year as the student M-Club president. She is an Elizabethtown, Ky., senior majoring in biomedical engineering. Haynes, a junior sports communication major from Starkville, has worked in the Bulldog Club office for the past two years. The Spirit of State Award focuses on the student’s contributions to the university in four primary areas: involvement in student organizations, service to others within the university community, actions that promote the spirit and tradition of State ? among them work ethic, leadership, academic excellence ? and commitment to equal opportunity and civic involvement. It is considered the university’s premier student award. * * * CONGRATS GO OUT TO BUD THOMPSON A special congratulations needs to be extended to Bud Thompson, currently president of the department’s Bulldog Club. Bud is a 2009 inductee into the MSU Insurance Hall of Fame. Established in 2004, the HOF annually inducts between two and four new members. Inductees are admitted based upon their “contributions to the development and advancement of the insurance industry in Mississippi” and/or “contributions to the development and advancement of insurance and or risk management at Mississippi State University.” * * *
