Football Finishes Friday Work, Set For Saturday Scrimmage

STARKVILLE, Miss. ? Head football coach Dan Mullen brought his team out to the practice fields early on Friday, putting his charges through a scaled-down practice in preparation of the team’s first scrimmage on Saturday.
The day’s efforts included heavy focus on the team’s running game and run stopping defense, and were again witnessed by several high school and junior college coaches from around the Southeast. More than 300 coaches attended the two-day coaching clinic hosted by Mullen and the entire football department.
On Saturday, the Bulldogs will work out on the practice fields of the Shira Athletic Complex, beginning the scrimmage portion of the drills after 10 a.m.
“I just want to see some guys play hard,” Mullen said. “See if we can find some guys who can make plays on both sides of the ball.”
The practice, which will be the seventh of the spring for State, will again be open to the public. Fans are encouraged to stay for Saturday’s 2 p.m. baseball game against Southeastern Conference foe Auburn.
