MSU Men's Tennis To End Regular Season With Home Finale Against Ole Miss

STARKVILLE, Miss. ? Mississippi State’s men’s tennis team concludes its regular season action at home this Saturday, April 18, against third-ranked, arch-rival Ole Miss. The contest is slated for Noon CT at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre as part of this weekend’s Super Bulldog Weekend festivities. MSU’s lone senior, Ryan Farlow, will be honored at the contest for his four years of service to the Maroon and White.

State is coming off a split weekend, winning at Arkansas and dropping a close match at LSU, and has tallied a record of 6-13 on the year, 2-8 in Southeastern Conference play. Ole Miss is 20-2 on the season and current leads the league at 10-0.

MSU and Ole Miss met earlier this season in the 12th annual River Hills Cup, played at River Hills Club in Jackson on Feb. 5. The Bulldogs had the Rebels against the wall, climbing back from a 3-0 deficit to pull within one point, before eventually dropping the match 4-2. The loss extended MSU’s drought against the Rebels to 22 straight matches.

State is led by the 99th-ranked senior Farlow, who has posted some big wins in his final campaign for MSU. No. 102 true freshman Artem Ilyushin is a winner of two-straight and six of his previous eight matches for the Bulldogs. Junior Chris Doerr is also a winner in his past two matches.

Ole Miss brings in three ranked players, led by No. 15 Jonas Berg, 39th-ranked Devin Britton and No. 42 Kalle Norberg. The Rebels also boast the No. 1 doubles team in the country in Berg and Bram ten Berge.

“This is a big match for us this weekend,” said Mississippi State head coach Per Nilsson. “We have been playing well lately, and it would be huge to end the season on a win going into the SEC tournament next week.”
