Diamond Dogs Host Delta Devils

STARKVILLE, Miss. - After playing eight of their last 10 games away from home, Mississippi State (15-12) hosts Mississippi Valley State (10-12) Tuesday night in the first of four Diamond Dog tilts this week at Dudy Noble Field.
After a midweek game at UL-Monroe (15-11), MSU plays host to SEC Western Division rival Auburn (18-9, 4-5 SEC) in a three-game league weekend series.
First pitch for Tuesday’s MSU-MVSU game is set for 6:30 p.m., with Bulldog sophomore lefty Forrest Moore (2-0, 2.91) tabbed for starting pitching duties against Mississippi Valley State.
A run-scoring double in the eighth inning by freshman Brent Brownlee lifted the Diamond Dogs to a 4-3 win over the Delta Devils when the two teams met Feb. 25 at Dudy Noble Field. State has won all 18 games in the series.
Rookie pitcher Nick Routt (3-1, 2.79) registered a win in his second consecutive complete-game pitching performance Sunday as State knocked off No. 9 Arkansas 12-4 in the Bulldogs’ SEC series finale in Fayetteville, Ark. Senior outfielder Grant Hogue recorded his first four-hit game and stole two bases while junior third baseman Russ Sneed went 3-for-3 with a career-best five RBI. Hogue, second in the SEC with 16 stolen bases, stands eighth among MSU’s career stolen base leaders with 41.
