Diamond Dogs Test South Alabama In Mobile

STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State treks to Mobile, Ala., Tuesday to meet the South Alabama Jaguars in the second game of a two-game season series. The Bulldogs (13-9) claimed a 5-1 win over the Jaguars (8-13) Feb. 25 at Dudy Noble Field.
First pitch at USA’s Eddie Stanky Field is set for 6 p.m. (CDT).
State sophomore righty Michael Busby (1-0, 6.00) is expected to make his first career start in his first appearance against South Alabama Tuesday in Mobile. The Jaguars’ projected starter is junior lefty Chris LaGrow (0-0, 7.27).
The Bulldogs are coming off a closely-contested three-game SEC weekend series at Georgia. State out-hit the top-ranked Georgia Bulldogs 30-26 but could not muster the needed clutch hits, stranding 36 base-runners in dropping the three-game series (3-5, 0-4, 6-10). Senior catcher Scott DeLoach (.425) went 4-for-7 against Georgia and extended his team-leading hitting streak to a career-best seven games. Senior outfielder Grant Hogue (.250) collected five hits, drew a pair of walks, reached base twice as a hit batsman, and raised his seasonal in stolen base total to 12 with five pilfers on the weekend.
State returns to action at Dudy Noble Field Wednesday (6:30 p.m.) against the University of Memphis (9-12) before embarking on a second straight SEC weekend road series. MSU travels to Fayetteville, Ark., to take on the ninth-ranked and SEC-leading Arkansas Razorbacks (16-4).
