Lady Bulldogs Travel To Southeastern Conference Championships This Weekend

The three-day event concludes on Sunday at the Charles Nutter Field House.
“We are hoping the older kids will get out there and perform well in their events,” MSU coach Al Schmidt said. “It’s really just a matter of getting out there and competing.”
Junior Wendy Copeland will be competing in the long jump and the triple jump. She currently has the fifth-longest jump in the SEC this year in the long jump. The junior Lady Bulldog has placed as high as third this season. She also earned a spot on the MSU all-time superlative list in the long jump this year with a leap of 19 feet, 8 ? inches.
Also competing in the long jump is senior Marrissa Harris, who in addition will be competing in the 60-meter hurdles, the high jump and the pentathlon. Harris, who is the returning runner-up in the pentathlon, currently holds the second-fastest time in the 60-meter hurdles in the SEC at 8.29 seconds.
“We are expecting Wendy (Copeland), Priscilla (Gaines), Simone (Domingue), LaQuinta (Aaron), and Marrissa (Harris) to step it up and compete,” Schmidt said. “They are the older kids, and we are looking for them to perform well.”
Sophomore Simone Domingue will be competing in the 5,000-meter run. Domingue earned her best finish in the 5000-meter this season at the Arkansas Razorback Invitational with third place.
Senior Priscilla Gaines will be competing in the long jump and the triple jump, along with Copeland. Earlier in the season at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., Gaines earned herself a spot on the MSU all-time superlative list in the long jump at 19 feet, 2 ? inches.
The Lady Bulldogs’ squad will be competing in the distance medley relay on Sunday.
“Some of the younger kids will be running the DMR,” Schmidt said. “We expect them to step it up and compete with the other schools.”
