State's Doerr Named SEC Player Of The Week

Doerr picked up his second win in singles since the spring season began against UAB this past Sunday. Competing at the #6 position, Doerr faced a 4-0 deficit in the opening set against Blazer Daniel Moser, before charging back to take 12 of the next 13 games and win the match, 6-4, 6-1.
In #1 doubles action, Doerr also teamed up with sophomore Tanner Stump and upset the 29th-ranked Blazer duo of Brian Ly and Alex Emery, 8-5.
“I am really happy for Chris. He has been playing well in both singles and doubles for us,” said head coach Per Nilsson. “He is getting his confidence back strong and it is showing through his play.”
The honor for Doerr marks the 13th time a Bulldog has won the award since it was initiated for tennis in 2000. He joins former Bulldogs Jeremy Bayon, Marco Baron, Ivan Bjelica, Rene-Charles Combette, Romain Ambert, Luiz Carvalho, Florent Girod and Pierre Mouillon who have also earned the honor.
