Mississippi State Athletic Academics

28362 The Office of Athletic Academics is a group of athletic academic counselors, learning specialists, tutors, and administrative staff that are here to assist student-athletes in reaching their academic goals.

Our purpose is to enable the student-athletes to reach full academic potential and to pursue the degree and/or degrees they choose.

Athletic Academics provides an environment which is conducive to learning and stimulates growth as a student and as an athlete. We look forward to the success of our current and future student-athletes, both academically and athletically.

Athletic Academic Counselor
The Athletic Academic Counselors will become involved in all phases of a student-athlete's academic career, including, but not limited to:
1. Course selection based on the student's abilities assessed from test scores and transcripts
2. Referral to University support programs
3. Monitoring of mid-term grades, grade point averages, completion of University core requirements, degree programs
4. Personal academic counseling as needed
5. Registration information
6. Assistance in development of a major
7. Goal development and achievement
8. Contact with University colleges and major advisorsA

Athletic Academic Learning Services
The Athletic Academic Learning Services staff are involved in the following areas:
1. Initial screening of all student-athletes to determine areas of academic strengths and challenges
2. Educational evaluation, referring students to Student Support Services for accommodations and referring students to partnered clinicians in the community for evaluation of a learning disability and/or ADHD
3. Summer Bridge, to help the transition and holistic academic and life skills development to be successful @ MSU
4. Tutorial Services, assisting any student-athletes with content specific support in semester enrolled courses
5. Mentoring, supporting our student-athletes with development of academic strategies to be successful in the classroom
6. Learning Specialist caseload, working one-on-one with our at-risk population, building academic and behavioral skills through strategy and task completion

Templeton Athletic Academic Center

The Office of Athletic Academics is housed in the Templeton Athletic Academic Center. The 34,000 square-foot building serves the entire athletic department, houses the Athletic Academics offices and staff, and includes individual computer rooms, tutor work areas, a large open study area and a 300-seat dining facility with a fully-functioning kitchen. Over 18,000 tutoring sessions take place annually. Throughout each semester, it serves the needs of student-athletes though the assistance of over 70 tutors.

The TAAC features four study areas for student-athletes:
