Wilder Wins Junior National Championship In 400-Meter Dash

Emanuel Mayers selected to Trinidad Junior National Team in 400-meter hurdles
STARKVILLE, Miss. ? A pair of Mississippi State first-year runners have qualified for spots on their respective countries’ junior national teams for the upcoming IAAF World Junior Outdoor Championships, July 8-13, in Bydgoszcz, Poland.
After posting the top qualifying time in the men’s 400-meter dash, O’Neal Wilder ran 45.62 seconds to win the event title on Sunday afternoon. Wilder becomes the first Bulldog to win a junior national title while enrolled at MSU.
At the Trinidad Olympic Trials, Manny Mayers broke the Trinidad junior national record in the 400-meter hurdles, running 52.21 during Saturday afternoon’s competition. Mayers finished fourth in the event with a time of 51.92 and earned a spot on the Trinidad Junior National Team.
The United States Olympic Trials begin Friday in Eugene, Ore. Current Lady Bulldog Marrissa Harris will compete, as will Golden Coachman and Jamil Hubbard, both who just finished stellar careers at MState. Former Lady Bulldog all-American Tiffany McWilliams is also scheduled to compete.
Other former MSU athletes scheduled to compete at their countries respective Olympic Trials include Pierre Browne, Travis McKay and Keston Nelson (Canada) and Dion Crabbe (British Virgin Islands).
