MSU's Brandon Turner Signs Pro Pact With Florida Marlins

STARKVILLE, Miss. --- Mississippi State second baseman Brandon Turner of Cleveland, Tenn., has become the fourth member of MSU’s 2008 baseball team to sign a professional baseball contract.
Turner, selected by Florida in the 12th round of MLB’s First-Year Player Draft earlier this month, signed with the Marlins Tuesday afternoon at the club’s training camp in Jupiter, Fla. He was to travel to Jamestown, N.Y., where he will begin his professional career with the Jamestown Spinners of the Class A New York-Penn League.
Pitcher Jesse Carver of Starkville, Miss., (Kansas City, free agent), outfielder Jeff Flagg of Jacksonville, Fla., (New York Mets, 27th round) and first baseman Tyler Moore of Brandon, Miss., (Washington, 16th round) all signed professional contracts last week.
Turner saw his playing time limited to eight games as a third-year sophomore in 2008 due to a hamstring injury. As a freshman on State’s 2007 College World Series team, Turner compiled the second-highest batting average in the Southeastern Conference (.399) and ranked third on the club with 83 hits, 46 runs scored and 48 RBI.
