STARKVILLE, Miss. - A pair of early-season tournaments at the Newell-Grissom Building and 10 home Southeastern Conference matches highlight a 31-match volleyball schedule announced this week by Mississippi State University. It represents the most scheduled matches in a season for MSU since 1997.
Coach Tina Seals’ fifth Bulldog volleyball edition will host Arkansas Pine-Bluff, Colorado and Troy Aug. 29-30 in the season-opening MSU Classic on Labor Day weekend and close out non-conference competition Sept. 12-13 against Centenary, Central Arkansas, Memphis and Winston-Salem State in the MSU Invitational.
The 2008 volleyball schedule features 31 matches, 17 at the Newell-Grissom Building, and a 20-match double-round robin Southeastern Conference schedule.
Mississippi State is scheduled to compete Sept. 5-6 against Grambling State, Louisiana-Lafayette, host McNeese State and Southern Miss in the McNeese State University Invitational and then wrap up its pre-SEC schedule with a Sept. 9 match at Jackson State.
The Bulldogs return six letter-winners and two starters from last year’s 12-17 edition.
