Mississippi Sports Hall Of Fame To Honor Ron Polk Monday

MISSISSIPPI STATE, Miss. - Mississippi State baseball coach Ron Polk will be honored for his contributions to collegiate baseball by the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame May 19 in Jackson.
Polk, who this weekend is concluding a 35-year college head coaching career and a 29-year run as Mississippi State skipper, will be honored Monday prior to the presentation of the 2008 Cellular South Ferriss Trophy at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum. The awards ceremony begins at 6:30 p.m.
One of Polk’s past pupils, former MSU All-American outfielder and Major League Baseball manager and current ESPN analyst Nat "Buck" Showalter, will serve as the master of ceremonies for the fifth annual presentation of the Cellular South Ferriss Trophy.
Two Mississippi State players, Thomas Berkery (2006) and Edward Easley (2007) won the award the past two seasons. The trophy, given to the state’s top collegiate baseball player, is named for former Mississippi State and Boston Red Sox pitcher and Delta State coaching legend Dave "Boo" Ferriss.
