Several Standouts In Second Full-Pad Workout

STARKVILLE, Miss. ? The first words spoken by head football coach Sylvester Croom as he talked with reporters after Tuesday’s practice singled out the efforts of several players that caught the coach’s eye during the workout.
“We’ve got some individuals doing some things really well,” Croom said. “Jamayel Smith and Co-Eric Riley had an excellent day. Jamayel practiced like a pro today; he did all the little things. And Co-Eric had an outstanding practice as well. De’Mon Glanton and Keith Fitzhugh did good things today. Those four guys really stood out to me.”
The Bulldogs again worked in the climate-controlled confines of the
Croom’s group followed the same format as most of the other spring practices, concentrating on individual and group work early before spending a prolonged time doing team work.
“We’ve still got some of the same concerns that we had at the beginning,” Croom said. “My big concern right now is down the middle of our offense. We don’t have a center, and it’s a real concern now with J.C. (Brignone) not practicing and (Johnny) Carpenter being out. We put a lot on (D.J.) Looney and (Chris) Spencer. Hopefully J.C. will get back after spring break and get some work in, but that’s still a big concern.”
Brignone has missed the last three workouts as he has tended to a family matter. The head coach continued to speak of the concerns he has in the center of the offense as he addressed the fullback position.
“I know what Eric Hoskins can do, whether he is healthy or not is a concern,” the head coach said. “Brandon Hart is still inconsistent, one day he looks like a SEC player. That doesn’t allow for a lot of comfortable sleeping when you’re talking about your running game.”
The Bulldogs will take Wednesday off before returning to the practice fields on Thursday afternoon.
