State Hosts APSU To Close Seven-Game Homestand

STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State opens its 18-game April schedule with a pair of home games this week as the Baseball Bulldogs (11-15, 2-7 SEC) play host to the Austin Peay Governors (12-11, 2-4 OVC) Tuesday and Wednesday at Dudy Noble Field. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m. CDT for both games.
The two-game set closes out a seven-game home stand for the Bulldogs, who dropped a 5-3, 10-inning decision to Georgia in the rubber game of last weekend’s MSU-UG series at Dudy Noble Field. It was the third extra inning game in four games for State. The Bulldogs turned back South Alabama 7-6 in 11 innings last Wednesday night and opened Super Bulldog Weekend Friday with a 3-2, 10-inning decision over Georgia.
Sophomore righty Greg Houston (0-1, 7.36) is slated to make his second start and his eighth appearance of the season for the Bulldogs. APSU will counter with junior righty Jake Brisbin (1-0, 3.44). Sophomore Drew Hollinghead (0-0, 4.15) is expected to draw his first career start Wednesday, working opposite the Governors’ Jeff Lykins (0-1, 14.09).
The Governors own a 2-1 lead in the brief MSU-APSU baseball series. State claimed a 4-3 decision in a 2005 meeting at Dudy Noble Field and last year dropped a pair of closely-contested decisions in Clarksville, Tenn., bowing 3-2 in 11 innings and 5-3.
Mississippi State resumes league play on the road this weekend, testing 10th-ranked SEC East foe Kentucky (22-4, 5-4 SEC) in a three-game series at Cliff Hagan Stadium.
