More National Honors For MSU Pitcher Ricky Bowen

STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State sophomore pitcher Ricky Bowen has picked up two more national honors following his two-hit complete-game 4-0 shutout win over fifth-ranked Mississippi last Sunday.
The College Baseball Foundation named Bowen to its weekly "National All-Star Lineup" while the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) selected Bowen as its Pro-Line Athletic National Pitcher of the Week. Earlier this week he was selected SEC Pitcher of the Week and chosen by Collegiate Baseball newspaper as a Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week.
In Sunday’s series finale, the Jasper, Ala., product faced one batter over the minimum through eight innings against the SEC’s second-leading offensive team. It took a two-out, two-strike single to end Bowen’s bid to notch the sixth no-hitter in MSU baseball history.
Bowen finished the regionally-televised game with a career-high and staff season-best 11 strikeouts and in his fourth collegiate start notched his first complete game pitching performance.
Bowen is due to draw Sunday starting mound duties when the Bulldogs (9-9, 1-2 SEC) face No. 11 South Carolina (12-5, 1-2 SEC) in this weekend’s series at Sarge Frye Field in Coilumbia, S.C.
