MSU Tracksters Head South For Southern Miss Invitational

STARKVILLE, Miss. ? The Mississippi State track and field squads head to south Mississippi on Saturday, March 15, taking part in the Southern Mississippi Invitational. The meet is being held at the Marshall Bell Track and Field Complex on the campus of the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg. Competition begins at 10:30 a.m. CT for both squads.
At last weekend’s Jaguar Premier at the University of South Alabama, the Bulldogs were impressive, capturing five NCAA regional qualifying marks and five individual titles.
In the 200-meter dash, the Bulldogs grabbed three qualifying marks and swept the top four spots. Senior Jamil Hubbard took top honors in the event, finishing in a personal-best 20.92 seconds. MSU also captured four out of five spots in the 400-meter dash.
In distance events, freshman Matthew Cameron crossed the line in first place for MState in the 800-meter run with his personal-best time of 1:55.10.
The Bulldogs swept both relay events, notching NCAA qualifying marks in both relays. In the 4x100-meter relay, the tandem of junior JohnBailey, freshman Justin Christian, Hubbard and sophomore Kendall May took first place, finishing in 40.37. Bailey, Hubbard, freshman Emanuel Mayers and senior Chris Woods received their qualifying mark for their first place finish in the 4x400-meter relay, crossing the line in 3:09.30.
Freshman Ed Wesela participated in the shot put, winning in the event with his personal-best throw of 51 feet, one inch.
This will be the first outdoor meet of the season for the Lady Bulldogs.
