MSU Looks To Rebound At Linger Longer Invitational

STARKVILLE, Miss. - The Mississippi State men's golf will begin competition at the Linger Longer Invitational in Greensboro, Ga. on Friday March 14. The three round, 54-hole event will be played at the par-72 Reynolds Plantation over a three day period under a 18-hole per day format.

MSU will look to rebound from a 12th-place finish at the Seminole Intercollegiate on March 3rd prior to finishing in the top five, five straight times, tying a school record.

"We hope to bounce back and learn from the Seminole Intercollegiate," said Coach Clay Homan. "We did well here last year, and even though this is a different course, we are excited about this opportunity."

Making the trip for the Bulldogs will be a quartet of juniors in Noah Goldman, Carlos Sainz, Jr., Logan Young and Matt Fast, as well as senior Josh Oller. Goldman is the team's leader in stroke average and currently ranks ninth in the SEC in overall stroke average with 71.94 strokes per 18 holes. The Longwood, Fla.-native has also been MState's top finisher a team-leading four times and has won two individual titles this year at the Magnolia Cup and Roadrunner Intercollegiate. Young is making his first tournament appearance of the spring after competing in all five of the Bulldogs' fall tournaments. The Memphis, Tenn.-native is currently second on the team in overall stroke average and 14th in the conference, posting 72.2 strokes per 18 holes. Sainz, Jr. will be playing in his third tournament of the spring, including two top-team finishes and two top-20 showings at the SunTrust Gator Invitational and Seminole Intercollegiate. Fast will be making his fifth tournament appearance of the year and second of the spring. The lone senior traveling, Oller, is competing in his fourth straight tournament in an impressive spring campaign that includes a top-five showing at the Roadrunner Intercollegiate, a top-20 finish at the SunTrust Gator Invitational and four career-lows including low round and tournament (54 holes).

MSU will tee off among the 14-team field that includes seven ranked teams in the top-50 according to GolfStat.com. The field includes SEC-foes Georgia and Mississippi followed by host-school Mercer, Chattanooga, Clemson, Texas Tech, Michigan, Purdue, Memphis, Eastern Michigan, South Alabama, Georgia State and Kennesaw State.
