Bulldogs Get Wet Weather Work
STARKVILLE, Miss. ? A steady rainfall continued nearly the entire two-and-one-half hours the Mississippi State football team worked on Friday afternoon, but head coach Sylvester Croom walked away pleased with his group’s work in the adverse conditions.
“It was a nice, messy day for us to get a lot of mental work done,” Croom said. “We handled it extremely well. It’s the first day in a long time we’ve worked in the rain and we needed it. We needed to work with a wet ball.”
The first day of work in shoulder pads gave the Bulldogs their first opportunity to see contact, but the injuries already suffered have the head coach concerned about the ramifications of Saturday’s first full-pad workout.
“We’ve had a few injuries, nothing major” Croom said. “That’s the thing that concerns you ? particularly tomorrow when we start hitting.”
The head coach expressed his satisfaction with the first week of drills entering the part-practice, part-scrimmage scheduled for the weekend.
“We’ve been working pretty well,” he said. “If we keep making progress we’ll have a chance to be pretty good.”
Following Saturday’s workout, State will take Sunday off before returning to the field for four practices next week.
