MSU Golf Coach Clay Homan Takes Early Lead At 2007 Mississippi State Amateur Golf Championship

A duo of Homan’s Bulldogs joins their head coach near the top of the Mississippi Golf Association-sanctioned event leaderboard. Senior Josh Oller, who has returned to competitive golf after suffering a knee injury in January, posted an even-par round of 72 and stands tied for fifth going into Friday’s second round. Sophomore Matt Fast turned in a 1-over par 73 to finish the day tied for tenth in the 150-competitor field. Jackson, Miss-native Jake Lambert opened with a 74 to rank in the top-20 after the Thursday’s competition.
Homan is a two-time winner of the Mississippi State Amateur Golf Championship, claiming the 2005 and 1994 titles. A year ago in Philadelphia, Miss., he came up a stroke short at Dancing Rabbit Golf Club for back-to-back state amateur crowns.
The four-day event continues Friday with pairings teeing off from No. 1 and No. 10.
