Lee, a 2007 Greenville-Weston High School graduate, was recently awarded the state of Mississippi’s Gatorade Track and Field Athlete of the Year honor. The national award will be announced later this month. A multi-event athlete, he competed in the 110-meter hurdles, triple jump, discus and the 300-meter intermediate hurdles for the Hornets of GWHS.
"We are very excited about adding Martin (Lee) to our track and field team,” said Dudley. “Martin is very accomplished and talented at several different events. He has a great attitude and is also very excited about coming to Mississippi State"
He finished his prep resume by winning three state titles at the 2007 Mississippi High School Activity Association’s State Meet. Lee won the 110-meter hurdles, triple jump and the discus events. In the hurdle event, he clocked a time of 14.74 seconds while posting a personal-best mark of 47 feet, three and three quarter inches. In the discus, Lee scored a throw of 143-00. GWHS placed sixth in the Class 5A State meet with Lee recording 38 of the 43 total team points.
“I am very excited about coming to Mississippi State,” said Lee. “I think I will be an asset to the team and hope to win a championship before I leave there.”
The in-coming MState student-athlete plans on majoring in kinesiology.
