Four MState Track Athletes Named To ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team

MSU’s Ryan Irwin and Joy Griffith were earned the honors for the second consecutive year. Irwin and Griffith were members of the 2006 edition of the academic team. Irwin, recent spring graduate with a degree in computer engineering, was named to the university portion of the team and the lone male recipient from State. The Ballwin, Mo.-native is a three-time all-Southeastern Conference academic selection along with earning 2007 Newsom Award for track and field at MSU. The award is given to the top scholar on each intercollegiate team on campus. Irwin was a five-time President’s Scholar and achieved Deans Scholar list three times. Griffith was selected to the team after achieving a 3.97 grade point average in the animal/dairy science curriculum at MSU. She will continue her education on the MState campus at the school’s veterinary program. The Tuscaloosa, Ala.-product owns the 3000-meter steeplechase school record on the women’s side.
Sophomore Michelle Corrigan joins Griffith on the university division first team. Corrigan sports a 3.85 GPA in biological sciences at MSU. This season she set the MSU school record in the 10,000-meter run at the Mt. SAC Relays with a time of 35 minutes, 30.43 seconds. She was selected to the 2006 SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll. Junior Annie Falor was tabbed to the district’s second team. Falor, from Flagstaff, Ariz. and an English major at State, posted a 3.96 GPA during the academic year. She was the women’s cross country Newsom Award winner and is a two-time all-SEC academic honoree.
