March 17, 2026 | Track & Field
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State track and field alumni Navasky Anderson and Abdullahi Hassan are set to compete in the World Indoor Championships, held in Kujawy Pomorze, Poland.
Both Anderson and Hassan will compete in the men's 800m, with the preliminary round set for Friday morning local time.
Anderson, competing for Team Jamaica, has had an outstanding indoor campaign. He currently ranks ninth in the world for these events and 16th on the top list for this season's performances.
Anderson shattered the Jamaican indoor national 800m record earlier this season, finishing in 1:44.75 in Poland at the same arena hosting this year's World Championships. This will be his first World Indoor Championships after making the 800m final at the Outdoor Championships last fall.
Hassan earned an at-large invite from World Athletics to compete at this year's championships for Team Canada. He sits at 40th in the world on the top list of this season's performances, and 50th in the world rankings. He competed in one race this season, clocking in a 1:45.92 last month in Chicago.
Both Anderson and Hassan were prolific runners for State, competing over the middle distances.
During his time as a Bulldog, Anderson was an SEC Champion, All-SEC and All-American honoree, and a national runner-up, all in the 800m. Hassan earned similar accolades as an SEC and national runner-up, with All-SEC and All-American honors in his grad year at State.
