Madison Francis Earns First SEC Freshman Of The Week Honor

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Madison Francis was named the SEC Freshman of the week, the conference office announced on Tuesday morning.
The recognition marks the first time Francis has been recognized as the Southeastern Conference's Freshman of the Week. Francis was named the Tamika Catchings USBWA National Freshman of the Week earlier this season.
Francis, a 6-2 forward out of Lancaster, New York, was just shy of averaging a double-double on the week, as she averaged 14.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.0 blocks and 1.5 steals.
Francis was a pivotal player in helping Mississippi State to their first ranked victory since 2020 when the Bulldogs took down the 15th-ranked Tennessee, 77-62. Francis earned her sixth double-double against the Lady Vols with 12 points and 10 rebounds, alongside three blocks, three assists and a steal. Francis' six double-doubles are the most of any SEC freshman this season.
Francis scored 17 points and finished a rebound shy of her second double-double of the week in State's Sunday matchup against Missouri. She knocked down a career-high three three-pointers in the contest at a 50 percent clip. It was Francis' 16th game in double figures this season, which is the second-most of any freshman in the conference.
On the season, Francis is averaging 13.2 points, 7.6 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.5 assists. She continues to be one of the best shot blockers in the nation, averaging 2.9 per game, a mark that ranks first in the SEC and third in the nation. Francis has rejected 3 or more shots in 12 games this season, the fourth most of any player in the nation and second most of any player in the SEC.
Francis and the Bulldogs will be back in action when they take on the third-ranked South Carolina Gamecocks on Thursday, February 5. Tipoff for the contest is set for 5:30 p.m. CT on SEC Network.
