BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – For the second time this season, Madison Francis was named the SEC Freshman of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday. Francis becomes the fourth player to earn multiple SEC Freshman of the Week honors this season and the first Bulldog to do so since the 2021-22 season.
Francis led the Bulldogs to back-to-back SEC wins for the first time this season, averaging a team-leading 15 points and 3.0 blocks, alongside 7.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 0.5 steals. On the week, she shot 54.5 percent from the floor and 66.7 percent from distance. Over the course of the entire season, Francis is averaging 13.3 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.8 blocks, 1.5 assists and 1.4 steals.
Francis started the week off with a 17-point, eight-rebound performance against the Georgia Bulldogs, who jumped into the AP top 25 this week. Francis shot 58.3 percent from the floor and knocked down her only three-point attempt. She recorded four blocks, which marked the ninth time she has recorded four or more in a single game, a total that leads the nation.
Francis scored 13 points, recorded seven rebounds, dished out three assists and rejected two shots in a road victory over the Arkansas Razorbacks on Monday. Her two blocks led the team in the contest, marking the 18th time she has led her team in blocks this season. Francis tied her career-high with three three-pointers made at a 60 percent clip. She was one of four Bulldogs to knock down three triples, marking the first time State has had four players hit three or more in a single game in at least 20 seasons.
Francis continues to lead the SEC with 2.8 blocks per game, a mark that ranks second in the nation. Her 74 total blocks also ranks second in the nation and has moved her into eighth on Mississippi State's single-season block list and second among Bulldog freshmen.
Francis and the Bulldogs will return to Humphrey Coliseum this Thursday, February 19, when they take on the Florida Gators. Tipoff for the contest is set for 6:30 p.m. on SEC Network+
