The Final Horn: Tennessee 73, State 64
February 11, 2026 | Men's Basketball
THE BOTTOM LINE: Mississippi State dropped a 73-64 decision to Tennessee on Wednesday night at Humphrey Coliseum. A late MSU surge wasn't enough for the Bulldogs to overcome the Volunteers. Josh Hubbard came out on fire, scoring 14 of State's first 16 points. Tennessee then sparked a 14-3 run over the last eight minutes of the first half to grab a 39-28 lead at halftime. After the break, the Volunteers came out with an 11-2 run to eventually extend their lead to 20. Tennessee's lead reached as many as 23 and it seemed like the game was put away when State suddenly ignited an 18-0 run over a 4:59 stretch to bring the game within five, 63-58, at the 5:15 mark. However, the Volunteers responded with a 9-0 run of their own to essentially ice the game.
KEY NUMBERS: Hubbard finished the night with 31 points to lead all scorers while burying four 3s. He tied Barry Stewart for first in program history in 3s made with 280 career triples. Jayden Epps added nine points and five assists in the effort. A large factor in the State loss was being out-rebounded by a 45-31 margin. The Vols held a 15-6 edge on second-chance points.
NEXT UP FOR THE DAWGS: The Bulldogs travel north to Oxford as they take on rival Ole Miss on Saturday, Feb. 14. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. and the contest will be aired on ESPN2.
