Sacco Tabbed To AUSL All-Defensive Team
July 23, 2025 | Softball
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Former Mississippi State outfielder and All-American Sierra Sacco added another honor to her resume on Wednesday as she was selected to the AUSL All-Defensive Team in her rookie season.
Â
Sacco has been perfect over 34 chances in the outfield for the Talons, splitting time between center and left field. She had never played the corner outfield spots in her collegiate career prior to her professional debut. Sacco is one of two outfielders in the league this year with a perfect fielding percentage and at least 20 chances.
Â
Her highlight reel this season included a diving catch down the left field line to save a run in a two-run ballgame and a home run robbery to preserve a one-run lead and take away a would-be three-run shot. The Talons lead the AUSL with a .981 team fielding percentage and have eight fewer errors than the next-best team.
Â
Sacco was also selected to play at the USA Softball All-Star Showcase this summer. Offensively, she is hitting .313 with an .888 OPS while launching three doubles and three homers. Her .395 on-base percentage ranks fifth among qualified rookies.
Â
In her two years at Mississippi State, Sacco never made an error, ending her career on 229-chance errorless streak that dated back to March 25, 2023, when she was at Louisiana Tech. There have been just seven errorless seasons by Bulldog outfielders with at least 50 chances since 2001, and Sacco boasts two of them.
Â
Her 88 successful chances this spring trailed only Iyhia McMichael's 109 among perfect outfield seasons. She holds the program record for career fielding percentage by an outfielder, and she is the only State outfielder to be perfect through more than 52 chances in the grass.
Â
Sacco, her former Bulldog teammate Raelin Chaffin and the Talons will conclude the regular season in Tuscaloosa tonight against the Volts. They have secured the No. 1 seed in the AUSL Championship against the Bandits. The three-game championship series begins on Saturday, July 26 in Tuscaloosa.
